There is no single number called indoor air quality.
PM2.5 helps track smoke and fine particles. Carbon dioxide can reveal ventilation patterns. Radon requires a dedicated radon sensor and long enough sampling. VOC readings are broad signals, not identification of a specific chemical. Humidity helps explain comfort, condensation, dust mites, and mold risk.
Measured pollutants
Choose PM2.5 for smoke and cooking particles, CO2 for ventilation, radon for soil-gas risk, and humidity for moisture. More icons do not always mean better decisions.
Sensor method
Look for laser-scattering particle sensors, NDIR carbon-dioxide sensors, published ranges, accuracy, sample interval, calibration, and warm-up time.
Display and history
A clear local display makes action easier. An app is useful when it shows trends and exports data without making basic readings unavailable.
Safety limits

Can an air-quality monitor detect mold?
Consumer monitors generally do not identify mold. Humidity, particles, and VOC trends may point to conditions worth investigating, but moisture inspection and professional assessment answer a different question.
Do I need a monitor in every room?
Start in the occupied space with the biggest concern, then move a portable monitor to compare conditions. Separate long-term radon monitoring or room-specific automation may justify additional devices.
